In the case of married spouses, upon a break down of the relationship, property is divided on an equal basis (there are some exceptions to that general rule). In the case of unmarried persons, there is no automatic division of property, regardless of the length of time the parties cohabited. In your case, you should seek counsel from a lawyer in your area.
