Is my ex responsible for half of my daughters tuition?

My daughter will be attending university next year is my ex husband responsible for half of the tuition and residence/food fees. He is saying he only has to pay 1/2 of the actual tuition fee. We have a seperation agreement but there is no mention of post secondary fees Thanks , a concerned mom

Answer: Thank you for your question. In order to be responsible I need to read the Separation Agreement and ask you a few questions, in order to provide you with a guaranteed answer. As a general comment only, the answer is likely “yes,” he is required to share such TOTAL costs on a proportionate basis, subject to reductions based on your daughter’s contributions, available RESP’s, the reasonableness of the costs, etc. Once again, I can be specific to your exact case if I can read the Separation Agreement and ask you a few questions.
