Custody, whether sole or joint has no bearing on parental rights. Custody is only an indication of the time actually spent with the children and confers only the decision making power for day-to-day decisions. Unless a parent has his parental authority removed, he or she will always have a say in more important decisions relating to health, education, religion, etc. Parental authority does not depend on actual access rights and exists even if a parent has no visitation rights whatsoever.
