Is separation even feasible with neither of us working?

Anonymous Asked:

Both my husband and I currently have no job. We have a house and 2 children. He was already done his job (packaged out a few months after returning from a leave)and decided to start a new career when I found out I no longer had a job. He continued with this new career. It has not yet taken off. My severance is done. I have lived for years with his negativity, and feel as though I am a single parent with a babysitter who cooks in the house. I am not happy. Is separation even feasible with neither of us working? I cannot see us both living under the same roof while being separated. I anticipate it going badly when I tell him I think we should part.

The longer the marriage, or relationship, the more likely it is that there will be a split, roughly equal, of the value of assets and property, and income. In some separations, there remains to be financial inequalities between spouses after the separation, and others there is close to equal split of income and value of assets, or financial means. It is always good planning to prepare a proposed financial budget of available or disposable monies and living expenses. Also, part of these initial financial planning stages would involve taking full stock of the savings, eg, in this case his severance, and discovering whether it is available and can be liquidated or not. If you do this planning ahead of time before the separation, then it definitely assists during the initial stages of the legal process. There are legal issues as to inputting income, which section 19 of the Child Support Guidelines, relates to, and you can discuss that with a lawyer of your choosing.
