My husband left and bought a house in another province

Anonymous Asked:

I have been married for the last 29 years and have 2 grown up kids who still stay at home with me We have a famil owned business being run by all of us .for the last year I have been having problems with my husband and things went from bad to worse It was also mutually decided that we we will take a break from each other for 6 months to cool off but my husband went to vancouver and bought another business in his name without consulting any one of us And has also moved to vancouver this month. I feel betrayed hurt and angry He told me he's not sorry about moving and wants to live there now I am worried about my future now I have trusted him blindly all these years and have never questioned his financial decisions At this point I don't even know where I stand in life Hes barely civil to me since he left and is either yelling and screaming at me for driving him away He takes no responsibility for his actions and wants us to be happy for him when he didn't even consult us while moving I don't know where to go and what to do I need some guidance

Answer: After a 29 year marriage my first suggestion/question relates to marriage counselling. If both of you agree, then perhaps that is a place to start. However, if it is clear that the two of you will not reconcile, then you are entitled to pursue your spousal support and property division rights. The valuation of your business, and a decision about whether it will continue, must be discussed. We can absolutely protect your legal rights by either negotiating a Separation Agreement or obtaining a Court Order; however we need details of your current financial situation, in terms of income, assets, and debts. You are welcome to call me for a free consultation at: (877) 668-9386.

(The information provided above is general, not legal advice, as circumstances vary from case to case. Thus, if you wish legal advice that you can rely upon for your specific case, please contact Douglas Briand for a free consultation).
