Anonymous Asked:

I have a child ending four years of university and needs to go back to finish a few courses. Does child support end after the four years? He will not be classified as a fulltime student.

You should consult with a lawyer of your choosing to discuss these issues as I cannot provide a legal opinion here. But, there are different approaches to determine child support, and it is possible in these circumstances that the child support should be based on each parent's means and having regard to the child's needs and ability to contribute to his own support. Presumably, the child is unable to obtain gainful employment until the courses are completed. As such, the child may continue to be dependent having regard to education and living expenses. However, the amount of child support should be subject to what the child's needs are determined to be and having regard to each parent's ability to assist to the support of those needs, arguably even if the child continues to reside within one parent's home.
