Do I have to pay support if my husband retires after we separate?

If my husband retires after we separate and I am still working do I have to pay support??? Also I own a new car, do I have to sell or give him money for half of it??

Answer: You have raised two distinct issues. In terms of spousal support, I need more facts, such as whether he will receive a pension, your ages, length of marriage, the amount of your continuing income, etc. There are Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, and once I speak with you and obtain the required information I can place it into our computer program and answer your question.

In terms of the car, you are both entitled to an equalization of net family property. All of your assets and debts, both on the dates of marriage and separation, must be considered when determining the property settlement. This overall calculation will determine what happens to the car.
