Married in Jamaica but Canadian Citizens

We were married in Jamaica. We are both Canadian citizens however I would like to know for sure (not a guess) if we have to get divorced in Canada or should Jamaicaian law come into play when deciding division of property and assets. Should I hire a Jamician lawyer to help with my divorse in Canada? I would prefer to use Jamaican law.

You can get divorced in Canada as long one party has been resident in Canada for at least one year prior to the commencement of the divorce proceedings. If you are a Canadian citizen, living in Canada, Jamaican law would not apply.
