My ex refuses to disclose his financial documents

Anonymous Asked:

My ex of 7 years will not disclose any of his financial papers, such as T4's. He claims that I do not need to see them and if I keep pushing to see them he will be forced to cut back on his hours at work and pay me less. I feel he is hiding something. He just recently bought a house with his new girlfriend and her kids. He also has another home he owns, which a family member lives in. He has always been very controlling over me and this seems to be another one of his controlling ways. My daughter has had some medical issues this past year which has forced me to take a lot of time off work and he refuses to help me with the extra costs of lost wages, gas and parking at her appointments. Not sure where I should go from here.

I cannot provide legal advice, but only general information. You should ensure that your requests are detailed in writing. As for the threat of reducing work hours, this is one of the reasons it is important to also obtain previous years income information. The costs to address the medical issues may be section 7 expenses and therefore may require payments over and above the basic Table amount child support. However, there is no requirement to assist with your lost wages, gas and parking. I think you should consult with a lawyer of your choosing to fully canvass and explore all issues, and further to that meeting you may decide to commence litigation proceedings. Typically, litigation is advisable when one of the party's is not co-operating or complying with simple disclosure requests. Once proceedings are commenced, motions for third party disclosure is available, if necessary.
