Why does child support turn into spousal support?

We have been married more than 18 years. We are legally divorced since January. We have three children, two are living with her and one with me. Why does the child support for the son that lives with me turns into spousal support after he finishes the school when he is still with me???? Is there anyway to avoid that?? I had incompetent lawyer 🙁

Answer: Yes, there is a way to avoid the spousal support change that you note. I need to see the document (Court Order or Separation Agreement) that deals with the support issues. I will also need proof of current incomes. We can then either negotiate the changes, or commence a “Motion to Change” to have the Court Order the changes.
