Spousal support

Posted in Anonymous Q & A, Kitchener, Ontario, Separation by Questions on March 14, 2013

I worked part-time for 15 years raising the children. I have been working full time for the past 1 1/2 yrs. However, earning much less than if I had been nurturing my career all those years. My husband makes $120,000+ a year. The children are now adults. Do I have a chance at getting spousal support?

Spousal support is a very contentious aspect of family law. The most common basis for granting a spouse spousal support is to compensate them for their contributions to the family (which often includes raising children). A spouse must first establish that they are entitled to support. I encourage you to seek legal counsel regarding this issue.
